If you're going to eat them, cook them well
A lot of the problem originates with factory farms which are, to put it mildly, filthy, disease-breeding cesspools. The situation must really be out of hand if the normally supine US FDA is getting involved. What about home grown eggs? Probably less likely to be contaminated (assuming the growers run a clean operation), but the fat and cholesterol issue remains.
