If you're a smoker, obviously your best protection against lung cancer is to stop smoking.

When you've stopped, or if you've lived with a smoker, what can you do to help heal your lungs? There are things you can do right now to help your lungs heal from smoking. Lungs start to heal almost immediately when you stop. We know that fruits and vegetables contain a lot of antioxidants that prevent the kind of damage that leads to cancer. Foods high in vitamins A and E help a lot.

An estimated 85% of lung disease is caused by cigarette smoking.

If you have smoked or been exposed to second-hand smoke, there are some foods that may help you repair the damage your lungs have suffered.
